It's frustrating. As you know because I've mentioned several times, I'm a homeschooling mom. This year our schedule is changing and I'm not going to be able to make it to nearly as many meetings as before. However, I could call in if that option is brought back!

Over and over the other commissioners have shown they see public comment as a distraction to their agenda, rather than an opportunity to communicate with their constituents to do the job they were elected to accomplish.

Thank you for continuing to care about Manatee County.

Well now you know how the residents have felt for the last couple of years…we are ignored and not heard.

Making motions that are not seconded may seem useless but I disagree. The other members cannot ignore this forever especially the ones who are up for election in 2024. If there is someone who is willing to stick their neck out like this, they deserve people appearing at the meetings to back them up during the open part of citizen comments for future agenda items. Without citizen support, George is going to be vilified and isolated. Then the other commissioners will show him that he must go along to get along as at least one commissioner who is up for reelection in 2024 has already stated. All of the motions which George has made without a second at the very least deserve public discussion as is guaranteed by the First Amendment. If he is left to dangle in the wind we will only receive more of the same which we cannot afford. I ask everyone to pay special attention to Facilities Investment which only George seems to understand. It is huge. There are hundreds of MILLIONS in reserves which need to be discussed before someone goes on a spending spree without our knowledge or permission.

The George we are seeing now on the dais is the intelligent person we believed in and voted for. We are sad that it took you so long to begin to represent the citizens in Manatee County. You are the only sharp knife in the drawer, and we hope you will continue to speak the truth. What is changed and voted on will be the legacy of every sitting commissioner. We always thought one voice could make a difference in our community, unfortunately that one voice does not belong to the public. Even if it took you a while to find your conscience, the public appreciates your attempt to stop this travesty because the community will ultimately be left with the damage created by the most destructive board in Manatee County.
